Nomination

Welcome with new nominations from 1 February until 30 April, 2024.

The Board of the Marcus Wallenberg Foundation and its Selection Committee invite individuals and institutions, globally, to nominate candidates for the Marcus Wallenberg Prize, between 1 February and 30 April each year.

The Prize is awarded to recognize, encourage and stimulate path-breaking scientific achievements which contribute significantly to broader knowledge and/or technical development within all subjects relevant to the forest-based sector all over the world. The achievements may be of widely different characters and relate to subjects ranging from forest ecosystem conservation and management through process, product and service developments contributing to the sustainable development of society. The evaluation of the achievements will recognize excellent science or technological innovation alone as well as the combination of both.

for The Marcus Wallenberg Prize

“Candidate” implies an individual or a group of normally 2-4 individuals who have actively cooperated in research leading to a scientific and/or technological achievement that has had or potentially will have a significant impact on forestry and forest products related industries. Nominations are accepted via our internet-form below or by e-mail or mail, by 30 April each year, and are considered by the Marcus Wallenberg Prize Selection Committee in a continuous process. Candidates will be judged and graded initially on the basis of this short nomination. Nominators of short-listed candidates will then be requested to provide full details of the candidate’s biography, publications and patents, together with a detailed justification and citation for the Prize. Nominations are reviewed by the Committee and by peer scientists, forest and industry managers, and related consumer specialists over a 3-year period. Prize-winners are announced by the Board early in each calendar year. As far as possible the following details should be obtained without directly involving the candidate. The Prize process is kept as secret as possible until a final announcement is made.
