The purpose of the Prize is to recognize, encourage and stimulate pathbreaking scientific achievements which contribute significantly to broadening knowledge and to technical development within the fields of importance to forestry and forest industries.

Winners

1987 – Derek Barnes and Mark T. Churchland, Canada

For their pathbreaking development of a process for the manufacture of a novel wood-based product of high strength and uniformity, opening new opportunities for the use of wood in engineered building components and architectural design.

1988 – Bernhard Ulrich, Germany

for his painstaking research on the behaviour of mineral elements and organic matter within typical Central European forest ecosystems, providing new insights into the complex role of airborne pollutants upon the health and productivity of the forests.
